Earl Raymond Olsen, 77, of Higganum, Connecticut passed into eternal life on Monday, July 13, 2020 with his wife by his side at home. Earl fought hard against cancer. He was an extraordinary engineer, a Renaissance man. He was kind and humble and extremely hard working, helping everyone in any way he could. Everyone loved Earl. Earl often said that he was "working for Jesus" as he helped many, many people and his church and his family. Earl was born in New York City on October 1, 1942 to Dr. Frances Olsen and Mr. Hugh Olsen. He was raised in Philadelphia where his mother attended medical school and later moved to East Corinth, Vermont where she practiced medicine. Earl graduated from Bradford Academy, Vermont and from the University of Vermont with a degree in engineering. Earl worked as an engineer at Liberty Mutual, Hamden; Web Converting, Framingham, MA; Mobay Chemical, Charleston, SC; Pratt and Whitney, Middletown; Oce Bruning, Guilford; and Brooklace, West Haven, CT. Earl met his wife Lee at the Hamden Single Ski Club. They both loved skiing and both climbed and skied Tuckerman's Ravine, New Hampshire together as well as many other ski areas in America, in Europe, and in Argentina. They were married for 48 years. Earl loved working on cars and repaired and rebuilt many engines over the years. Earl's major project, though, was building and designing his home in Higganum. He loved Valley Bible in Haddam and helped them as well with his engineering skills. Earl gave of himself to everyone. He was compassionate, tender hearted, humble, and caring. Earl is predeceased by his parents, his brother Roy Olsen from East Corinth, Vermont and his sister, Aina Jo Barnwell of Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his loving wife Lee Ann Cherniavsky Olsen, a retired Groton Public School teacher, his son Matthew of Newport Beach, CA., his daughter Chamonix and son in law Jim Sikora of Milford, CT. He is also survived by his mother in law Anne Cherniavsky of Milford, his brother Toby and wife Janet Olsen and sister in law Lillian Olsen, all of East Corinth, Vermont. In addition Earl is survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers in laws, who all deeply love and care for him. A "Celebration of Life" ceremony will be held at Valley Bible Evangelical Free Church in Haddam, Connecticut on August 1, 2020 at 10 am. Masks and social distancing are required.
