William C. Hamilton, 80, of Windsor Locks, CT; passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born September 29, 1936 in Medford, MA, he was a son to the late Hollis and Isabelle (Booker) Hamilton. Bill was raised in Houlton, Maine, and graduated from Houlton High School in 1954. He then enlisted in the US Navy serving four years. While enlisted, he served two years in Panama and eight months on the U.S.S. Potomac in the Mediterranean Sea, landing troops in the troubled Middle East, mainly Beirut and Lebanon. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he located to Boston where he attended radio school. He later moved to Windsor Locks to be closer to his family, and left the radio talent to join the Hartford Insurance Group. He was the first computer operator, later being involved with the systems end of insurance, retiring after 33 years of service with the Hartford. Bill was very active with the Windsor Locks Lions Club, where he served as treasurer for many years. He also was a member of the Housing Authority and CONA. Bill was instrumental in creating and teaching computer programming for the Windsor Locks Senior Center. Bill enjoyed photography, with emphasis on video recording. He photographed and recorded several of his nieces and nephews weddings. Bill had a passion for computers, and anything electronic. He always seemed to have the latest and greatest tech gadgets. Bill is survived by his brother Malcohm and wife, Jeanette; sister-in-law Nelda Lou Hamilton; 8 nephews, a niece and their families; and numerous friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Peg McClelland and brother-in-law, Roland; and brothers Jack and Doug. Bill would like to express his appreciation to the Brian Michaud family for being such good friends and neighbors over the years, and for the many Sunday breakfasts shared. A graveside service with military honors for Bill will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 in Grove Cemetery, Windsor Locks, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill's name may be made to the Windsor Locks Lions Ambulance Fund, PO Box 105, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
